2016 Challenger Series qualification process receives update

2016 Challenger Series qualification process receives update
Significant changes on how up and coming teams with qualify for the 2016 North American and European Challenger Series are on the horizon, Riot games announced on Tuesday.
In an attempt to update the qualification process, Riot Games has revamped their Challenger Series system for the upcoming year.
Previously, teams would be pulled from the Ranked 5s Challenger Ladder before being seeded into a qualifier to determine who would participate in the Challenger Series, but ladder locks and other issues made this system impractical and occasionally unfair.
The new methods of qualification for North America and Europe will be slightly different, but both have similar steps.
In both cases, teams will register and participate in an Open Qualifier via the League of Legends Battlegrounds. They will then be randomly drawn into a bracket to play for a spot in their region's Challenger Series Qualifier. To participate in the Open Qualifier, registration will be open from Dec. 1-8 and players must have a Solo Queue rank of Diamond 3 or higher.

In North America, the CS Qualifier will feature the two lowest seeded teams from the 2015 Summer Challenger Series (Vortex and Winterfox) facing off against the top two teams from the Open Qualifier, with the fifth seed, in this case Vortex, having their choice of opponent. The winner of each best-of-five set will advance to the 2016 NA Challenger Series Spring Split.
For Europe, the process will be different due to the inclusion of the winners of what Riot has deemed the "National Leagues". Not only will there be three representatives from the Open Qualifier, one from EU West, one from EU North East and a final team decided by a one-off match between the EUW and EUNE second seeds, but the winners of select regional European tournaments will also participate. The first place teams from the German ESL Meisterschaft, Polish ESL Mistrzostwa Polski and Spanish LVP Division de Honor will join the Open Qualifier teams as well as the bottom two 2015 EU Challenger Series teams (Overclockers UK and Ex Nihilo) in a two bracket qualifier.

Each bracket will be randomly seeded, but the 2015 CS teams and the top EUW and EUNE representatives will be drawn into separate brackets. Each stage will be a best-of-three leading up to best-of-five finals. The winners of each bracket will advance to the 2016 EU Challenger Series Spring Split.
The Open Qualifiers for both EU and NA will run from Dec. 10-18 and Jan. 4-10. For Europe, the three National League will be concluded by Dec. 6. Finally, the CS Qualifier will take place on Jan. 12-20.
Further details about all steps of the qualification process as well as the 2016 Challenger Series are expected before the new year.
