Pilot on Jin Air's outlook for next year: 'this is a new team that's growing together'
Despite a disappointing loss to Counter Logic Gaming in the semifinals at the Intel Extreme Master San Jose, the Jin Air Greenwings are very aware that they are a fresh roster with room for improvement.
Following the series, AD Carry Na "Pilot" Woohyung discussed what some of those improvements might look like and what it was like playing in a rotating roster with Cpt Jack this year.
You played a lot rotating in the team with Cpt Jack this year. What factors do you think influenced the coaching staff in letting you play over Cpt Jack and vice versa?
I have no idea why they chose to use me or use Cpt Jack. It's all up to the coaches and what they decide they want to do. I don't have a clue.
I heard that Cpt Jack has a big role in team communication when played, is that true?
No, he didn't really have a big role or make calls.
In that case, could you describe the communication system on Jin Air?
Before it was Chaser doing most of the shotcalling, but right now all of us contribute to the game calls. Our team is obviously having communication issues because we're not used to each other. But overall, once that kind of meshes better, I think having all of us contribute is going to be better than having one guy make the calls.
You're still relatively new to playing in Champions Korea. What's one thing that you think you learned this year that you can take with you next year to perform better?
When I first came on to the Jin Air Greenwings, I didn't know anything. Cpt Jack had so much experience, so watching him play, I learned a lot.
What specifically did you learn from Cpt Jack?
Just how to play in lane, and how to walk around the map. In general everything. I want to take what I was able to learn from Cpt Jack and bring it over to next year.
You faced an AD carry today on CLG who is very new to playing high level competition. Could you describe some of the strengths and weaknesses you observed from Stixxay's play?
One thing he did well was that, during a group fight, I felt he did a lot of damage. One thing that he didn't didn't do that well was taking care of side lanes where he's needed to clear minions. He didn't seem very good at that.
There have been a lot of changes to AD carry for preseason. How do you think the big Essence Reaver changes will affect the AD carry position?
Through this item, moreso than champions with a really strong auto attack, more damage will be dealt through skillshots.
Is there an AD carry that hasn't been played lately that will come out more?
Lucian.
What do you think is the biggest thing Jin Air can focus on to perform better in LCK next year?
We haven't played a lot of games together yet. This is a new team that's growing together, so we're going to have to keep playing more games, really figure each other out, and look for that synergy. That will really help us.
