New LCS franchise Follow eSports rebrands to Splyce, picks up Call of Duty team
After purchasing a newly qualified League Championship Series (LCS) team,Follow eSports will shed its old name today.
The website, which labels itself the “TV Guide of Esports,” is renaming both the site itself and professional esports teams to Splyce. With holdings in League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and more, the team’s new brand will resonate across multiple platforms in the coming months.
In addition to its rebranding, the team is picking up a professional Call of Duty squad. The roster of JoshuaLee “Joshh” Sheppard, Jordan “Reedy” Reed, James “Dominate” Batz, and Benjamin “Bance” Bance will compete at the Call of DutyWorld League Pro Division Qualifying Invitational Tournament on Dec. 4 wearing the new Splyce logo.
"We're really stoked to finally be able to share our brand new identity with the community, as we continue to grow into an important resource for esports fans," Marty Strenczewilk, CEO of Splyce, told the Daily Dot. "I couldn't think of a better way for us to be able to share this new look than pairing it with bringing on an eliteCall of Duty team that's been invited to the Activision World League LAN qualifier."
The company is also introducing a new feature on their new look website, adding push notifications for followed events.
The Splyce name isn't a new one for Strenczewilk or his company. Follow eSports was actually the first product under Splyce eSports, a company founded early this year envisioned as similar to a Curse of esports, an umbrella brand encompassing a variety of products.
The acquisition of Team Dignitas’s European LCS squad on Oct. 29 made a more focused approach under a single brand like Splyce more reasonable. That squad includes young star mid laner Chres "Sencux" Laursen, as well as top laner Martin “Wunderwear” Hansen, marksman Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup, and former MeetYourMakers support Nicolai “Nisbeth” Nisbeth. The team later signed formerEnemy and SK Gaming Prime jungler Jonas “Trashy” Andersen on Nov. 16.
The team has high hopes for their inaugural LCS season, and they'll now play it out wearing the black-and-yellow snake logo of Splyce.
