YellOwStaR leaves Fnatic; set to join NA LCS team
A European legend is leaving Fnatic, as Bora "YellOwStaR" Kim has left the roster, the organization announced on Tuesday.
"On behalf of everyone in Fnatic, I would like to begin by thanking and congratulating Bora for his phenomenal performance and achievements over these past three years," said Chief Gaming Officer Patrik "cArn" Sattermon in the press release.
"When we understood that YellOwStaR had sincere interest in pursuing a new journey and chapter of his already successful career, we did everything in our power to provide him with an offer and path within our organisation that would make him reconsider. However, we soon realized what we probably already knew: that someone as determined and curious like Bora thrives from trying new things - the very same traits that made him to the player and person he is today."
YellOwStaR joined Fnatic in early 2013, first as the starting AD Carry and later as support. Alongside Fnatic, he took multiple European LCS titles and appeared in many significant international events such as IEM Season VIII - Cologne, All-Star Paris 2014, and the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational. He is also one of the two players in the world to have attended every single World Championship to date, and represented Fnatic for the most recent three.
This is the third departure to hit Fnatic, with top laner Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon and jungler Kim "Reignover" Yeu-jinleaving the team on Nov 23.
Of the departure of his long time teammate and lane partner, AD Carry Martin "Rekkles" Larsson said he was grateful for the time spent playing alongside the competitive veteran and wished him all the best.
"The time together has been both inspirational & instructive and it has helped me become the person & player I am today," he said "What he has done for the team & organisation shall continue regardless of his presence. I wish him all the best moving forward and once again I'm grateful for all the things he's done. A tough road lies ahead, but I'm excited to see what the future has to offer and together we shall see it become a cheerful one!"
YellOwStaR played a crucial role in Fnatic's successful rebuild at the start of 2015, which saw them revamp almost their entire roster with young talent under his leadership. He now is leaving Fnatic in the hands of Rekkles and star mid laner Fabian "Febiven" Diepstraten.
On his future, YellOwStaR said a move across the Atlantic to join a North American LCS team was imminent, citing a desire for a change of environment as a factor in his decision.
"After careful overall reflection, I had the opportunity to join a team being at my best level in North America and get the chance to experience a new lifestyle and environment," he said.
Fnatic will now have the difficult task of not only replacing their talented top laner and jungler, but their leader and support as well. As for YellOwStaR, although his future place in North America is unknown, there is no shortage of high profile teams seeking a veteran player such as YellOwStaR.
